American boxer Terence Crawford announced his retirement on Tuesday at the age of 38, with a perfect record of 42 wins in 42 fights. He was an undisputed champion in three different weight classes and stated he had "nothing more to prove."
"This is not a goodbye, it's just the end of one fight and the start of another," he said in a video posted on social media. His last fight, which brought his perfect record to 42-0, was in September of this year against Mexican Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez. Crawford won by unanimous decision, becoming the undisputed champion in the super-middleweight division.
"I am stepping away from competition, not because I can no longer fight, but because I have won a different kind of battle: the one to leave on my own terms," the athlete added.
