FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that U.S. President Donald Trump will present the World Cup trophy to the winning team on July 19. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Infantino stated that he, along with the presidents of the United States, Mexico, and Canada—who are co-hosting the upcoming World Cup—will oversee the trophy presentation ceremony after the final match in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It remains unclear whether Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will attend the ceremony on behalf of their respective host nations. Infantino and Trump have maintained a close relationship for several months, which drew significant controversy when FIFA's president awarded the U.S. leader the FIFA Peace Prize during the World Cup draw held in Washington on December 5. Additionally, Trump and Infantino presided over the trophy ceremony at the 2025 Club World Cup in East Rutherford, where the U.S. president broke tradition by initially remaining on stage to take victory photos with English club Chelsea, who won the title, before being joined by the FIFA president.
