Bill Belichick, the coach who has won eight Super Bowls, will not be inducted into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. In the voting held earlier this month, Belichick did not reach the 40 out of 50 votes necessary for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on his first attempt, four sources with direct knowledge of the result told ESPN. On Friday afternoon, a Hall of Fame representative called Belichick to inform him that he will not be enshrined this summer in Canton, Ohio. Several sources who spoke with the coach over the weekend described Belichick as "perplexed" and "disappointed" for not having received the backing of at least 80% of the committee members. "Six Super Bowls aren't enough?", Belichick asked a close associate, referring to the championships he won as head coach of the New England Patriots. He won two more as defensive coordinator of the New York Giants.
