Buenos Aires, March 7 (NA) – Former River Plate and Racing coach Ángel Cappa criticized Argentine Inter Miami star Lionel Messi for his visit to U.S. President Donald Trump last Thursday in Washington.

As reported by the Argentine News Agency, the team led by Argentine Javier Mascherano visited the White House in the U.S. capital of Washington to have an encounter with the American head of state. The Inter Miami captain entered the premises alongside the U.S. leader, creating an image that traveled the world and sparked all kinds of comments, given the delicate and global military context with the United States as the main protagonist.

The former Argentine coach Cappa commented on the meeting, stating:

“To soccer fans, to those of us who enjoy every time Messi amazes us with some newly invented move, it was like a slap in the face of our sentimental foolishness. There are times, moments, circumstances where the athlete has no way to evade the interested approach of the politician.”

“Soccer is mostly fed by players from the humblest neighborhoods, from the working class. But he just appeared next to Mas Canosa, a prominent member of the international mafia, and Donald Trump, one of the most feared world terrorists, a type who goes around bombing foreign countries, killing people with impunity and endangering all of humanity with the threat of a devastating world war,” added the former Real Madrid assistant coach.

Despite disagreeing with his meeting with Trump, the former Huracán coach praised Messi as a soccer player:

“Messi is not only the best soccer player in the world currently, but he is part of the best in history, along with Di Stéfano, Pelé, Cruyff, and Maradona.”

“The thing is, he didn't appear separate from his teammates next to just any characters, he did it next to 2 of the worst criminals of our contemporary history. That is, those most punished by the power elites. He has distributed and continues to distribute joys and emotions throughout the planet for many years, for what he is: a genius, an inventor of marvels,” he concluded.

Finally, Cappa analyzed what a soccer player generates in the political class and the use of the former for the benefit of the latter:

“Since soccer is the sport with the largest following in the world, which has been for a long time, politicians and governors of all ideological orientations, democrats, tyrants, or whatever they were, have sought the support of the winners. However, the system has the appropriate mechanisms so that, as we already know, the victims hate the executioners and at the same time want to imitate them. Money is never the passport to access the status they aspire to,” he concluded.

They are unaware that they are never accepted as new members of the elitist classes. When they photograph themselves with them, they think they share a bit of their idolatry and popular acceptance. When they achieve a comfortable, or very comfortable, economic situation, they think they are already part of the dominant social class and adopt not only their way of living, but also of thinking. But in any case: what a pity, Messi.”

“Like any person, he has the right to think however he wants about politics and whatever. We don't know it nor will we know it. Did he do it fully consciously? Was he forced? We don't know nor will we know.”
