2026 NFL Season to Kick Off in Seattle

The NFL has announced the start date and location for the 2026 season. The current champions, the Seattle Seahawks, will play their opening game at Lumen Field.

The National Football League (NFL) announced that the 2026 season will begin on Wednesday, September 9, at Lumen Field in Seattle. The opening game will feature the current Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks, against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

As is customary, the first game of the new NFL season is played at the champions' stadium. In this case, it's the Seattle Seahawks, who won the Super Bowl in Santa Clara against the New England Patriots this past February.

One day after the Seahawks' debut, the NFL will host its first game in history in Australia. A showdown between the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams is set to start at 8:35 PM Eastern Time.

The Seahawks' opponent for the opening game will be announced this spring, the NFL reported.
