The Los Angeles Dodgers secured their spot in the World Series where they will meet the Yankees by defeating the New York Mets 10-5 this Sunday. Tommy Edman hit a home run and drove in four runs in the game, which also earned them the conquest of the National League Division Series. The Mets took the lead in the first inning when Pete Alonso hit an infield single and shortstop Tommy Edman made a throwing error to first base. Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor took advantage of the confusion and advanced to home plate. The Dodgers responded in the bottom of that first inning, adding two more runs.
In the sixth inning, Venezuelan Francisco Álvarez was on base and Dominican Mark Vientos hit his fifth home run of the postseason, a new team record with 14 RBIs in the playoffs. In the seventh inning, the third run was produced by Puerto Rican Kike Hernández with a single that drove in Edman. The Mets added another run in the ninth inning with a single from Jeff McNeil.
The Dodgers responded in the eighth inning with a three-run rally, the first of which was a two-base hit by Mookie Betts to the left field alley, scored by Michael Taylor. The other run in this inning came from a sacrifice fly by Hernández to right field that allowed Ohtani to score from third base. Venezuelan Francisco Álvarez hit a fly to right field that Tyrone Taylor took advantage of to advance home.
The victory went to Ben Casparius (1-0) who completed 1.1 scoreless innings, and the save went to Blake Treinen (2), who pitched two innings allowing one run and struck out four. Manaea (2-1), who had dominated the Dodgers in the second game of this series, had no secrets against the bats of the Angels and had to leave the mound after two innings in which five runs were scored against him, ultimately taking the loss. The Dodgers will head to the meeting with the Yankees for the World Series.
