The Russian tennis player, Maria Sharapova, known for her five Grand Slam titles and her strength on the court, has been chosen to be inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility. Sharapova, who achieved at least one championship in each of the four major tennis tournaments, is one of 10 women to complete a Grand Slam in singles. Additionally, she was the first Russian woman to reach number one in the world rankings in 2005.

American brothers, Bob and Mike Bryan, were also selected for the Hall of Fame on their first opportunity. The Bryans set a record by winning 16 doubles titles in major tournaments. The induction ceremony for Sharapova and the Bryans is scheduled for next August in Rhode Island.

Despite facing a doping case, Sharapova managed to reduce her suspension after appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The tennis player retired in 2020 at the age of 32, after a 15-year career that included several surgeries on her right shoulder. On the other hand, the Bryan brothers, who accumulated 438 weeks at the top of the ATP doubles rankings, achieved the feat of completing the Grand Slam and winning the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Sharapova, also successful in the business realm with million-dollar sponsorship contracts, has left an indelible mark on global tennis. At the 2016 Australian Open, she tested positive for meldonium, resulting in a two-year suspension. Throughout her career, the tennis player won titles at the US Open, Australia, and France, leaving a significant legacy in women's tennis.

Sharapova's career was not without controversies, but her impact on tennis and her success on the court have solidified her as a sports legend. The Bryans, on the other hand, are noted for their doubles record and their contribution to American tennis, achieving victories in both major tournaments and Olympic competitions. The induction of these three tennis greats into the Hall of Fame is a recognition of their impressive careers and contributions to the sport.
