US Banknotes to Feature Trump's Signature

The U.S. Treasury announced an unprecedented decision to place President Donald Trump's signature on banknotes to celebrate the country's 250th anniversary of independence. This also means removing the Treasury Secretary's signature from currency for the first time in 165 years.

US Banknotes to Feature Trump's Signature

The U.S. Treasury Department announced that U.S. currency will bear President Donald Trump's signature to celebrate the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, a first for a sitting president. Meanwhile, the signature of the U.S. Treasury Secretary will be removed from U.S. currency for the first time in 165 years. In a statement reported by Reuters, the department said the first $100 banknotes bearing Trump's and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's signatures will be printed in June, followed by other banknotes in the coming months. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing under the Treasury Department is still producing banknotes with signatures from Treasury Secretary in former President Joe Biden's administration, Janet Yellen, and Treasury Secretary Lynn Malerba. Malerba will be the last in a continuous series of Treasury secretaries whose signatures have appeared on American federal currency since 1861, when the U.S. government first issued it. The signature change is part of the Trump administration's and its allies' efforts to put the president's name on buildings, institutions, government programs, naval vessels, and coins. Treasury officials confirmed that the overall design of the banknotes will not change, except for replacing the Treasury Secretary's signature with Trump's.
