Elon Musk has long claimed that his Cybertruck will be armored, but a recent experiment revealed unexpected results.
In a widely circulated video, a user named Dante Cole directed a pistol towards the rear part of a Tesla Cybertruck valued at $100,000 and made a shot. This highlighted the disparity between the claims and reality.
As previously stated, Musk claimed that the Cybertruck was armored, starting from the moment of its announcement around 5 years ago.
Consequently, Musk's statements about the truck's abilities to work like a boat have not yet been confirmed, raising questions about the accuracy of these assertions. At the same time, experts warned about the risks of shooting at the metallic body at close range, since this may lead to projectile ricochet, which poses a danger to humans.
This came after the formation of a hole in the truck's bed, which caused Cole to duck, cover his head, indicating that he expected a different outcome. Then a person, who recorded the video, commented: "I don't think it could have protected against bullet!"
While the test for the bulletproof glass of the truck 'against bullets' failed during this demonstration, it did not stop the truck owners from trying to verify Musk's claims.
In another experiment, Cole produced a shot at a close distance, and the bullet only dented the side of the truck, not penetrating the metal.
The Cybertruck consists of stainless steel and, possibly, can withstand low-speed bullets, but it is not armored in the full sense of the word.
Automobile experts confirm that the Cybertruck can protect itself from low-speed bullets, like from pistols, but not against bullets of higher speed, such as from an AR-15.
The video, publicized by Cole on platform X, became one of many clips where people shoot at their Cybertruck in attempts to showcase the validity of Musk's assertions.
In May of last year, YouTuber Zak Nilsen, leading channel JerryRigEverything, publicized a video where he shot the Cybertruck with various firearms. The truck withstood shots from a 9-mm pistol and .22 caliber, but bullets from a .17 caliber rifle and AR-15 noted significant damage.
