English is the predominant language in higher education, especially in areas such as research, innovation, and access to academic content. Banco Santander, in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania, has launched the second edition of the Santander USA Summer Experience Penn program, offering 90 scholarships to young people and students between 18 and 30 years old from Mexico and 12 other countries. This scholarship covers all expenses for an in-person language immersion experience in Philadelphia, USA.
The course is aimed at individuals with a minimum English level equivalent to B1, without the need to hold a university degree or be a Santander client. Jack Sullivan, director of English Language Programs at the University of Pennsylvania, highlights the importance of mastering English in a competitive job market, where this skill is essential for accessing better jobs, advancement opportunities, and greater international mobility.
The scholarships include flights, accommodation, maintenance, medical insurance, cultural activities, a certificate of attendance, and an invitation letter from the University of Pennsylvania to facilitate the visa process. The program will last for three weeks, from July 14 to August 1, 2025, and is designed to improve English proficiency, as well as skills such as leadership, teamwork, persuasive communication, social media management, or positive psychology.
Rafael Hernández, Deputy Global Director of Santander Universities, emphasized that "language immersion is the best way to accelerate language learning." The application period for this program will be open until April 29 at Santander Open Academy.
