NASA has announced the upcoming alignment of planets for late August 2025, with the possibility of seeing four planets at once before dawn. Subsequently, other astronomical events are expected where five planets can be observed at the same time near the horizon.
During this month of February, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn will be visible in the sky, offering astronomy enthusiasts the chance to witness a rare spectacle. NASA has recommended moving away from buildings and obstacles that may block the view towards the horizon to fully enjoy the phenomenon.
The planets will align along a line or arc in the sky due to their orbits around the Sun in a relatively horizontal plane. Although Mercury will briefly join Saturn in the glow after sunset in late February, these two planets will be too low and faint to be seen by most observers.
The ideal days to observe this alignment will be from the night of Tuesday, February 25, to Friday, February 28, when Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Mars will be visible to the naked eye. For a better perspective of this phenomenon, the use of a telescope is recommended, as the planets must be at least a few degrees above the horizon to be seen clearly.
