In the 97th edition of the Academy Awards, an unexpected moment occurred when Mick Jagger burst onto the stage to announce the winner of the Best Original Song category. The awarded song was "El Mal," from the film "Emilia Pérez," with music by Clément Ducol and Camille, and lyrics by Clément Ducol, Camille, and Jacques Audiard.
"This song was written to denounce corruption, and we hope that music and art will speak, as they can continue to be a force for good and progress in the world," said Camille upon receiving the award. It is noteworthy that this was the second statuette that "Emilia Pérez" received at the gala, after the award for Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña.
"El Mal" triumphed over other nominees in the same category such as "The Journey" by The Six Triple Eight, "Like A Bird" by Sing Sing, "Mi Camino" by Emilia Pérez, and "Never Too Late" by Elton John: Never Too Late. The surprise entrance of Mick Jagger to announce the winner created a stir at the gala and left one of the most talked-about moments of the night.
