Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny expanded his legend this Thursday by winning his first-ever Latin Grammy for Album of the Year for 'DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS'. At the ceremony, Karol G won Song of the Year, and Spanish artist Alejandro Sanz surprised everyone by taking home one of the major awards.

The Puerto Rican star, the betting favorite, won a total of five of his twelve nominations, including Best Urban Performance for 'DtMF', for which he also won Best Urban Song, as well as Best Reggaeton Performance and Best Urban Music Album.

At a gala that seemed designed for Bad Bunny to soar in three of the most important categories, surprises broke through and shattered predictions, especially in the Record of the Year category. This award was unexpectedly won by Spanish artist Alejandro Sanz with his song 'Palmeras en el jardín'.

Karol G, Song of the Year

Meanwhile, Karol G, who was also a strong contender, won the Song of the Year award for her hit 'Si antes te hubiera conocido', the merengue that became a summer anthem. With this song, she also received the Grammy for Best Tropical Song alongside Edgar Barrera.

In this edition, the Mexican composer tied Residente's record by reaching 29 Latin Grammys, the Puerto Rican star has accumulated throughout the awards' history.

Argentinians Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, the second most nominated of the night, took home five of the ten gramophones they were nominated for, in categories like Best Alternative Song, Best Pop Song, or Best Alternative Music Album.

«I do what I do because I love it and I was born for this»

Colombian star Karol G delivered a powerful speech, appealing for self-love and ignoring criticism, based on a recent personal experience. She received the Latin Grammy for Song of the Year for her hit 'Si antes te hubiera conocido'.

«At a time when everyone seems to have opinions about everything, the only thing that remained was to return to my roots and my purpose. I do what I do because I love it, I like it, and I was born for this,» the artist said during her speech.

«And I'm not saying this for me, I'm saying it because there are many people out there who think they are not good enough, not professional enough to do what they want. 'Someday you might end up at the Grammy's,'» the artist said.

Bad Bunny dedicates his Latin Grammy to Puerto Rico

Bad Bunny dedicated his award to the Latin American community, especially his native Puerto Rico, inviting them never to forget their roots while accepting the coveted Latin Grammy for Album of the Year for his project 'DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS'.

«I want to dedicate this award to all the children and young people of Latin America, and especially to those in Puerto Rico. Music has been my life, so after so many years I have fallen in love with it,» he pointed out.

The Madrid native defeated the night's favorites like Bad Bunny, who had two songs nominated in this category, as well as the Argentinians Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso.

«Tonight the Grammy's are ours,» shouted Amoroso.

Mexican Paloma Morphy won the award for Best New Artist, a recognition she used to encourage everyone who is afraid to post their projects online to get noticed.

«I love what I do, I love getting together with passionate people and doing what I enjoy the most,» she indicated.

Karol G released 'Si antes te hubiera conocido' in June 2024, a merengue that became that summer's song.

Alejandro Sanz pulls a surprise and wins the Latin Grammy for Record of the Year

Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz surprised everyone by winning the Record of the Year award for the song 'Palmeras en el jardín', during the 26th edition of the Latin Grammy held in Las Vegas.

Upon receiving the award, Sanz highlighted that this project had been his heartfelt return to music.

«It doesn't matter where you come from, never forget where you come from, but without forgetting where you are going,» the artist said in his acceptance speech.

And he added: «There are many ways to serve the homeland and defend our land. Never stop dreaming and being yourselves.»
