American actor of Japanese origin Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who starred in the "Mortal Kombat" franchise and the television series "The Man in the High Castle", has died at the age of 75. Tagawa was born in Tokyo, Japan, and during his adolescence, coming from a military family, he traveled across the United States. The actor starred in several notable films, such as "Licence to Kill" (1989); "Planet of the Apes" (2001); "Memoirs of a Geisha" (2005) and "Tekken" (2010). Tagawa and his wife, Sally, lived together on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, where they raised their children. "I had the privilege of representing Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa for many years as his agent, but our relationship became much deeper: he became part of the family," said Margie Weiner, Tagawa's agent, in a statement picked up by THR. Tagawa died on Thursday in the American city of Santa Barbara, California, due to complications from a stroke, confirmed today by The Hollywood Reporter (THR). Later, he moved to Los Angeles, where he began to act and taught his own style of martial arts, Chu Shin, the magazine recalls. He also brought his talent to television in "Nash Bridges" (1996); "Hawaii" (2004); "Revenge" (2012-2013); an episode of "Teen Wolf" (2014); "Star Wars: Rebels" (2017); "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (2017); the Emmy-winning film "The Man in the High Castle"; and "Blue Eye Samurai" (2023), according to THR. He starred in several "Mortal Kombat" projects from 1995, in which he played Shang Tsung, a villain who also appeared in the franchise's series and video games. However, his first film role was in 'The Last Emperor' in 1987, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, which won nine Oscars, including Best Picture.
