Teen Charged with Murder of Pregnant Woman in US

A teenager from Illinois, USA, has been arrested on serious charges after being accused of stabbing a pregnant woman to death in her apartment, attacking the family dog, and then setting the house on fire, following a meeting arranged via Facebook Marketplace. According to Downers Grove police, 19-year-old Nedas Rivo faces charges including first-degree murder, feticide, animal cruelty, armed robbery, and arson. Surveillance cameras captured him entering the building and a fight breaking out in the apartment before smoke began billowing from under the door. Firefighters found Morales injured near the apartment entrance, and she was later pronounced dead from her injuries. Investigations indicate that the victim, 30-year-old Eliza Morales, was five months pregnant with her second child. Authorities state that Rivo contacted the victim's husband to buy a pickup truck, then returned to the couple's apartment under the pretext of retrieving license plates and a sales bill. The victim's husband and their young child were not home at the time of the crime. The suspect was later arrested, and clothes suspected of having bloodstains on them were found. Rivo confessed to the crime, claiming a dispute over the truck's condition was the motive for the attack, and he also admitted to starting the fire in the apartment. The coroner's report indicated she suffered approximately 70 stab wounds, mostly to the head and neck, with defensive injuries, as well as soot in her respiratory tract, suggesting the assault coincided with the arson. The family dog was also stabbed during the incident but survived after fleeing the apartment and receiving veterinary treatment.
