Florida Woman Admits to AI-Generated False Police Report

A woman from Florida admitted to lying to police about being assaulted by a homeless man, generating his image using artificial intelligence to complete the 'Smart Homeless Man' challenge on TikTok. According to a St. Petersburg police report obtained by The Smoking Gun, 32-year-old Brooke Schenocte called 911 in early October to report that a man had broken into her home and physically assaulted her. During a subsequent interview, Schenocte provided police with an image she claimed to have taken of the homeless man, showing a white man in his 30s wearing a dirty jacket and a head covering. When questioned, she insisted on her story's truthfulness, stating she used AI only to 'enhance' the blurry photo but could not provide the original image. Schenocte eventually confessed after being held for filing a false police report, admitting she 'wanted attention' and was suffering from depression. She told police she used Google and ChatGPT to create a fake image of the attacker sitting inside her apartment. Police are urging people across the country to stop the 'AI-Generated Homeless Prank,' which aims to deceive people into believing a loved one is in danger. According to the St. Petersburg police report, people 'take a picture of an area of their home, then upload the image to an AI app... and ask the AI to insert a homeless man in the position of their choice'.
