New York wakes up to the season's first snowfall

New York City woke up this Sunday covered in white after the season's first snowfall, which was also felt in Boston and Philadelphia.

Snow began to fall late Saturday and continued into Sunday morning, accumulating up to 2.6 inches (nearly 7 centimeters) in some parts of the city. The Big Apple awoke under a uniform, but not very dense, white blanket, though heavier snowfall was recorded in some outlying areas and in New Jersey. In those areas, up to six inches of snow (more than fifteen centimeters) is expected to accumulate.

The National Weather Service reported that the winter storm will end Sunday afternoon, although temperatures will remain low. A significant snowfall in terms of amount is not expected.

The New York City Department of Health has been spreading brine on the roads since Friday, and authorities are already working to ensure proper traffic flow in the city.
