Mexican director Guillermo del Toro has received six Oscar nominations for his adaptation of 'Frankenstein'. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this on Tuesday. The Netflix film is nominated in six categories, including Best Casting, Cinematography, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Sound, and Visual Effects. In the new Best Casting category, del Toro's film will compete against the Spanish film 'Sirat' and 'One Battle After Another'. Written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, the project is based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel of the same name. It stars American-Guatemalan actor Oscar Isaac as the scientist, Jacob Elordi as The Creature, and Mia Goth as Lady Elisabeth Harlander. For this work, del Toro is also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Director, and the film itself has received five nominations for these awards, considered a precursor to the Oscars. The Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place on January 11 in Beverly Hills, USA. The Oscar finalists will be announced on January 22, along with the rest of the nominated films. The winners of the 98th Academy Awards will be announced at the gala on March 15.
