These measures are part of adjustments caused by Winter Storm Fern, which has caused widespread chaos in air travel on the US East Coast. US weather forecasts indicate that heavy snow and ice threaten the South, East, and Central parts of the country, with warnings of 'catastrophic' weather conditions extending from East Texas to North Carolina. This has led to the cancellation of more than 9,000 flights since the beginning of the week.
