Study: 15 Minutes of Daily Walking Reduces Death Risk

US and Australian scientists have found that a 15-minute daily walk significantly reduces the risk of premature death and heart disease, especially in sedentary individuals.

Study: 15 Minutes of Daily Walking Reduces Death Risk

A recent scientific study conducted in the United States and Australia has revealed that walking or fast walking continuously for 10 to 15 minutes daily is essential for reducing the risk of heart disease and early death. According to the study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, a research team tracked the health status of about 33,000 adults in the UK who aim to walk 8,000 steps a day. Over nearly 10 years, it was found that the likelihood of early death for those who walked several times for less than five minutes at a time was 4.4%, compared to 8.0% for those who walked the same number of steps in 10 to 15 minutes. The risk of developing heart disease or heart attacks was 13% for those who walked for less than five minutes at a time, compared to 4.3% for those who walked for 15 minutes or more daily. The study also indicated that the association between longer walking periods and a reduced risk of heart disease or early death was more pronounced in individuals with a sedentary lifestyle.
