Study: Aged Garlic Extract Improves Memory

The German portal 'Healpraxiscent' has shed light on promising results from a recent scientific study suggesting that aged garlic extract may help improve memory and enhance cognitive abilities associated with aging, opening new avenues in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive disorders. Researchers from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in the USA reported that long-term intake of aged garlic extract, in animal models, showed a significant improvement in learning, memory, and cognitive behavior, along with a reduction in anxiety indicators. Additionally, positive changes were observed in key brain regions such as the hippocampus, which is linked to memory, with a potential impact on proteins related to Alzheimer's development. According to the study's findings, this effect is attributed to several mechanisms, including reducing neuroinflammation, limiting oxidative stress, and lowering rates of neuronal cell damage, all of which are key factors in age-related cognitive decline. The researchers pointed out that these results position aged garlic extract among promising nutritional compounds that could support long-term brain health. However, they emphasized that the current findings are based on preclinical trials, stressing the need for expanded clinical studies on humans before adopting any therapeutic or preventive recommendations.
