Man becomes victim of crash and shooting in Oakland

For Essence Washington and her husband, Andre Buchanan, last week was one of the most difficult of their lives. The husband not only suffered an epileptic seizure that led him to crash into another car, but was also shot by the other driver afterward, had his phone stolen, and all of this happened on the same day. The story is that on March 20, Buchanan was driving his car to a store in Oakland when he suffered a seizure that caused him to crash into a parked car. Buchanan, who is still in a state of shock, says he got back on the street again before suffering another seizure and crashing into a second car, but this time there was someone inside it. Buchanan added: "As soon as I crashed into his car, he brandished a gun in my face." In an interview with ABC7 Eyewitness News, he said that after the second accident, the other driver got out of his car, stole his phone and wallet, then shot him in the leg. Buchanan said: "It happened so fast, I felt like I was in a dream. When the police arrived, they said I was losing and regaining consciousness. All I remember is that I was screaming for help." His wife Washington, speaking at the hospital, said she first learned from a friend that her husband had been in a car accident. Since Friday, Buchanan says he has undergone a blood transfusion and surgery on his leg. While a full recovery is expected, the family realizes that the road to recovery will be difficult. Washington said: "Seeing him learn to walk and undergo physical therapy, and not being able to bear any weight on his legs for two months, is extremely exhausting." The family says they are still in shock that a man was shot during a medical emergency. I didn't know that."
