Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood producer currently serving a sentence for rape, is now facing health issues. He has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer. According to U.S. media, this diagnosis comes just a month after he was accused of a new sexual offense.
In July, Weinstein was hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19 and double pneumonia, and he received intensive treatment. He is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence in California for sexual assault and rape. Additionally, he was convicted in New York in 2020 for similar offenses.
The allegations against Weinstein were a catalyst for the #MeToo movement in 2017, where more than 80 women, including celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Ashley Judd, accused him of harassment, sexual assault, and rape.
Weinstein, 72 years old, underwent emergency surgery last week to relieve excess fluid in his lungs and heart. He is now reported to have chronic myeloid leukemia and is being treated at Rikers Island prison in New York. This type of cancer is characterized by the development of abnormal leukemic cells in the bone marrow that do not mature properly.
Weinstein's diagnosis comes after several known health issues. His spokesperson expressed concern about the public disclosure of these medical matters.
