Dust Mites May Be Causing Your Persistent Colds

A Los Angeles doctor explains that dust mites could be the reason for perceived continuous colds. Regular cleaning of bedding is essential to prevent allergies triggered by these microscopic creatures.

Dust Mites May Be Causing Your Persistent Colds

Many people mistakenly think that they are constantly infested with dust mites, while actually it may just be a case of lint. It is recommended to wash bedding and duvet covers at least once every two weeks, but ideally once a week.

One doctor noted that it is not necessary to immediately change the sheets right after waking up, stressing the consequences of such an action for health.

Dr. MairĂ³ Vigora, a resident of Los Angeles, explained that mattresses and pillows can become a "repository" for human skin cells, which can contribute to the reproduction of dust mites. These microscopic pests, although usually harmless, can provoke allergic reactions.

According to Vigora, accurate bedding stuffing helps to retain moisture, creating an ideal environment for increasing the number of dust mites. On the other hand, leaving the bedding in a damp state can pamper it, thanks to good ventilation.

In a video posted on the platform "Instagram," Vigora indicated that "on average, a mattress can have more than 10 million dust mites. If you have a pillow for two years, then 10% of its weight may consist of dust mites and their excrements."

Although dust mites do not bite and do not transmit diseases, they can cause health problems for some people, such as allergies, asthma, dry eyes, and skin rashes.
