The Anti-Discrimination League of the Arab-American Committee in the USA filed a complaint, asserting the unconstitutional nature of the measures proposed by the Trump administration regarding the deportation of students and researchers-interns participating in support of Palestinian rights.
The complaint was filed against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which restrict actions on refusal of entry and expulsion of students and academics participating in demonstrations advocating for the rights of Palestinians.
"Refusing entry or expelling students and academics for participating in global actions to defend human rights is unjust and fundamentally contradicts the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees the freedom of speech and the right to peaceful assembly," said the statement from the Anti-Discrimination League of the Arab-American Committee.
Trump's decision to tighten measures on the deportation of foreign students and academics subjected to administrative scrutiny regarding political activism has drawn condemnation from human rights advocates and representatives of the academic community, who view this as a violation of their constitutional rights.
