Funding Cuts at Voice of America Impact Staff

The international organization "Reporters Without Borders" announced that the notifications about the termination of financing affected all employees of "Voice of America", noting that this decision represents a departure from the historic role of the USA as a defender of the freedom of information.

"Voice of America" transmits American news to other countries, often after translation into local languages, while stations like "Free Asia", "Free Europe" and "Radio Free" broadcast news to countries with guidance referred to as authored. The total number of listeners of these networks is about 427 million people, and their history dates back to the era of the Cold War.

The administration of US President Donald Trump started two days ago the reduction of personnel at "Voice of America" and other government-funded organizations. This refers to the US Agency for Global Media, which includes "Voice of America", the stations "Free Europe", "Free Asia" and "Radio Martí" that broadcasts news in Spanish in Cuba.
