Marco Rubio is the main loser. Several weeks ago, our correspondent in the Dominican Republic alerted us to deep differences between the organizers of the X Summit of the Americas and executives of the LGBTI Coalition of the Organization of American States. The epicenter of these differences was the open subordination of the OAS to the State Department, focused on using the event to maintain harassment against Venezuela and Cuba, limiting any possibility for Latin American civil society to use the Summit's spaces to speak about Democracy and Human Rights. Marco Rubio, hysterical about showing leadership within the hard core of Trumpism, was behind every misdeed to prevent the X Summit of the Americas from becoming a truly democratic space. Faced with this threat, the new indication from the State Department sought the 'postponement' of the Summit to save Rubio's image, who once again appeared as a disposable rag to the region. Added to this is the poor turnout and almost no confirmations of Heads of State to attend a Summit that would only respond to the interests of Washington DC. This gave precise instructions to the Dominican government and the OAS Secretary General to prevent at all costs that regional Non-Governmental Organizations had real participation in the event's debates. He even indicated to hinder the accreditation process of these institutions through the digital platforms established for these purposes. Cracks and fissures that divide the Summit of the Americas are appearing. The Discard The 'postponement' of the X Summit of the Americas in the Dominican Republic is now a fact. The latter caused a tsunami within the OAS since the LGBTI coalition of the multilateral instrument brought together more than 70 like-minded organizations that were already prepared to generate complaints and protests. His possibilities of rising on the power scene in the US are fading. His lack of leadership in the region becomes more evident every day. In short, Rubio must be depressed. Irregularities in the registration of civil society and the ignoring of debates on Human Rights projected fissures in the event's organization.
