The President's opponents used the footage to raise questions about Trump's job performance. The White House considered the attack on the President to come from 'failed liberal media'.
In a statement to CNN, White House Press Secretary Taylor Rogers said: 'The President was not asleep; he spoke throughout and answered many press questions during this announcement, which represents a historic drop in the prices of two drugs that help American citizens suffering from diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and other diseases. This announcement from President Trump will save Americans enormous amounts and countless lives, yet the failed liberal media insist on promoting a ridiculous narrative instead of covering it.'
Trump was participating in a Thursday announcement about lowering the prices of popular weight-loss drugs, speaking from behind his desk with other officials. At one point, Trump's eyes appeared closed, at other times he seemed to struggle to keep them open, and he rubbed them at times.
The images quickly drew criticism from Trump's opponents. His aides and government officials praise his strength and endurance, stating they receive phone calls or messages from him around the clock.
The day before the Thursday event, Trump traveled to Miami to deliver an economic speech that lasted over an hour. He also completed a tour of three Asian countries at the end of last month.
The press office of California Governor Gavin Newsom, one of the President's most prominent opponents, posted photos from the event, mocking him, according to a report by the American CNN network.
