Venezuela's Minister for Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, denounced that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) commits mistreatment and humiliations against the Venezuelan community in the North American country. In statements reported by official media, Cabello described ICE agents as "mercenaries" and denounced that the elimination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) has exposed thousands of Venezuelans to degrading treatment. The minister stated that many Venezuelans emigrated to the U.S. under the influence of manipulation campaigns and false promises, and are now victims of a system that attacks them through an aggressive migration policy. Cabello described the situation as "harassment against the Venezuelan people." "Given the serious internal problems the United States has, Venezuelans have become a burden for them, and the best way they have found to fix it is with repression, they don't care at all," he emphasized. The elimination of TPS (temporary protection program) for Venezuelans in the U.S. leaves at least 350,000 people at risk of detention and immediate deportation.
