Off-Duty Agent Arrested for Pointing Gun at Teen in California

A 45-year-old man, Gerardo Rodríguez, was arrested in Riverside County, California, after he allegedly detained a 17-year-old Latino at gunpoint. The incident occurred last week as the teenager was returning from a party. According to the teen's parents, the man, who was off-duty, ordered their son out of his vehicle at gunpoint. The officer questioned the teen about his immigration status and only released him after his mother brought his U.S. passport. The teen's lawyer, Greg Kirakosian, stated that his client and his family believed they would be shot or arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that night. Rodríguez was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, endangering a minor, and assault by a public official. Authorities have not confirmed if Rodríguez belongs to any federal agency. This is the latest in a series of incidents where immigration agents have confronted people at gunpoint in Southern California.
