White House to Meet with New York Mayor-Elect

Washington, Nov 20 (EFE). - The White House said Thursday that it will receive a "communist" on Friday, referring to New York City's mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, who will meet with President Donald Trump despite their public confrontation.

Karoline Leavitt, Trump's press secretary, said at a press conference that the meeting demonstrates the Republican leader's willingness "to meet and talk with anyone and try to do the right thing on behalf of the American people."

"It says a lot that a communist is visiting the White House tomorrow, because that's who the Democrats chose as mayor of the country's largest city," the spokeswoman said.

Leavitt pointed out that the meeting will take place even though Mamdani's city "is becoming much more left-wing than this president ever anticipated in his many years living in New York," she added.

Mamdani's victory, who will take office on January 1, came despite Trump's attacks, who threatened to cut federal funding to the city if he won.

Mamdani confirmed the meeting on Thursday and stated that he wants to "speak frankly" with the president about the economic difficulties facing New Yorkers, especially the high cost of living.

He also said the meeting "is not about a relationship with an individual," but rather a "relationship between the city of New York and the White House."

"I will meet with whoever, talk to whoever, as long as it can benefit an economic agenda for New Yorkers," he guaranteed.
