According to a Bloomberg News report citing people familiar with the matter, the United States is preparing to impose a new round of sanctions on Russia's energy sector. This step aims to increase pressure on Moscow in the event that President Vladimir Putin refuses to sign a peace agreement with Ukraine. The report states that the U.S. is considering options, such as targeting Russia's so-called 'shadow fleet' of tankers used to transport Moscow's oil, as well as the facilitators of these transactions. The report adds that the new measures could be announced this week. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent discussed this move when he met with a group of senators. The White House and the U.S. State Department have not yet responded to requests for comment.
