US and Russia to hold Ukraine peace talks in Miami

Representatives of the governments of the United States and Russia will meet this weekend in Miami, Florida, to discuss a peace plan to end the conflict in Ukraine, which has been ongoing for almost four years. The meeting follows intense diplomatic efforts last week in Berlin between US, Ukrainian, and European officials. The US delegation will be headed by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while the Russian side will include Kirill Dmitriev. According to key points of the peace plan, sources from the Trump administration indicated that consensus has been reached or significant differences have been overcome on 90 out of the 20 points in the draft agreement. Among the most relevant aspects of the negotiation are the status of NATO: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky suggested that Ukraine could suspend its attempts to join the alliance in exchange for strong security guarantees from the West. Kiev is also seeking protections comparable to NATO's Article 5 to prevent a future resumption of the conflict, a point the US is still evaluating on its own terms. The peace process also aims to establish a legal framework acceptable to all parties involved after nearly 48 months of crisis. Although a definitive agenda for the talks in Miami has not yet been set, the meeting is seen as a crucial step to consolidate the progress made in Europe and move towards a definitive ceasefire in the region. It is also expected that Ukraine's National Security Advisor, Rustem Umerov, will hold separate meetings with the US delegation to coordinate the points of the draft agreement.
