US President Donald Trump announced the launch of a new class of warships that will bear his name, an unusual step for a sitting president. During a press conference at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, the US President confirmed that this ship would be 'the largest warship in the history of our country, and the largest warship ever built in the world in history.' Images of the future ship at sea and under construction were displayed on screens around the stage. Trump estimated that building the first two ships would take 'about two and a half years,' confirming that this new class of ships would include 10 ships 'in the near future' and eventually 20 to 25 ships. He explained that these ships would be equipped with guns and lasers and be capable of carrying hypersonic and nuclear weapons. Trump stated that he wants to personally participate in designing the new ships 'because I am a person who focuses a lot on aesthetics.' He noted that this new class of ships was designed as a message 'to everyone, not just to China.'
