President of the United States Donald Trump announced tonight that the government of Venezuela will deliver 'between 30 and 50 million barrels of high-quality oil,' as part of the agreement established after capturing the former leader of the Caribbean country, Nicolás Maduro. Through a message on the social network Truth Social, Trump stated: 'I am pleased to announce that the provisional authorities of Venezuela will deliver between 30 and 50 million barrels of high-quality oil, authorized to the United States.' 'This oil will be sold at its market price, and I, as President of the United States, will control that money to ensure it is used for the benefit of the Venezuelan people and the United States,' affirmed the magnate, as learned by the Argentine News Agency. Likewise, he indicated that 'I have requested the Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, to execute this plan immediately. It will be transported in storage vessels directly to the unloading docks in the United States.' Trump's announcement came just days after attacks by U.S. forces on Caracas, which ended with the arrest of Maduro and his subsequent transfer to New York, where he will be tried for alleged crimes linked to drug trafficking. The U.S. leader quickly negotiated with Delcy Rodríguez, the former vice president who assumed office in place of Maduro—with his approval—and also serves as Minister of Hydrocarbons. Venezuelan authorities had millions of barrels of oil in storage, but could not export them due to the blockade that Trump himself had imposed since mid-December of last year.
