The social network X, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, has restricted its AI tool Grok for image editing to paid subscribers only, following days of complaints that the tool was being used to undress people without their consent. Daisy Dixon, a philosophy professor at Cardiff University and one of the women who reported being targeted, has called the change a 'patch'. She added that Elon Musk must acknowledge this is another gender-based violation. According to EFE, starting this Friday, Grok informs users requesting to modify images uploaded to X that 'image generation and editing are limited to paying subscribers.' This means the user's name and payment information will be linked to the altered image. 'The problem with AI is a human problem: Grok needs to be redesigned with ethical boundaries,' stated Dixon. In Spain, the Minister for Youth and Childhood, Sira Riego, has requested the General Prosecutor's Office to investigate X and its AI tool for alleged 'crimes related to the dissemination of child sexual abuse material'.
