New York, Jan 11 (EFE). - U.S. President Donald Trump urged the political prisoners released in Venezuela not to forget the U.S. intervention in the Caribbean country and added that if they do, 'it will not be good for them.' 'Venezuela has started the process, ON A LARGE SCALE, of releasing its political prisoners. If they do, it will not be good for them,' he added. In a previous message, the head of state stated that he is making 'Venezuela rich and safe again,' assured he 'loves the Venezuelan people,' and sent 'congratulations and thanks to all those people who are making this possible.' Trump today declared a 'national emergency' to protect in the U.S. the revenues from the sale of Venezuelan oil and yesterday offered protection to large oil companies with the aim of investing $100 billion in Venezuela. Meanwhile, the State Department today warned that there are armed militias in Venezuela looking for Americans or evidence of 'support for the U.S.' and urged its citizens to leave 'immediately' as the situation is 'fluid.' On Thursday, Jorge RodrÃguez, president of the Parliament and brother of the acting president, Delcy RodrÃguez, announced that a 'significant number of people,' including Venezuelans and foreigners, would be released, without specifying the number or conditions. Relatives, activists, NGOs, and opponents denounce that the releases have been gradual and that between 15 and 22 people have been freed, compared to the more than 800 that, according to the NGO Foro Penal, are imprisoned for political reasons, the majority since the post-electoral crisis of 2024.
