After the meeting, Machado proceeded to the Capitol, where she held talks with Republican and Democratic senators. The Venezuelan opposition leader also expressed her commitment to the return of the millions of Venezuelans who have emigrated in recent years. "There is no way a country where 86% of the population lives in poverty can attract real investment," she stated. The meeting was also attended by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a staunch ally of the Venezuelan democratic struggle. "Know that we can count on President Trump for the freedom (of Venezuela)," Machado said, according to Noticias Argentinas, citing CNN.
