Two protesters publicly reported this Friday that they lost their vision after being hit by projectiles fired during a protest against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) service held last week in southern California. One of the protesters, identified as Britain Rodriguez, 31, told the Los Angeles Times that he lost vision in one eye after being hit in the face by a projectile during the protest in the city of Santa Ana against ICE deportations and the murder of Renee Good in Minnesota. Rodriguez's girlfriend, who was also present, was hit by a bullet in the chest and was unharmed. According to his testimony, doctors located fragments of plastic and glass in his skull and removed a piece of polymer the size of a 'five-cent coin' from one of his eyes. The deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Tricia McLaughlin, denied Rummler's accusations and downplayed his injuries. Following Good's death, thousands of people have demonstrated against ICE in the U.S. The state of Minnesota and the cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul have sued the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to halt raids and the massive deployment of federal agents in those cities. Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act, one of the most powerful emergency powers that allows the president to deploy the Army to suppress episodes of civil unrest, in the state if attacks against ICE continue. The U.S. leader has resorted to similar warnings in response to protests against immigration campaigns in cities such as Los Angeles (California), Portland (Oregon), and Chicago (Illinois) last year. Both protesters stated that the agents did not warn them before shooting. Their testimony adds to that of Kaden Rummler, a 21-year-old young man who also lost vision in one eye during the same operation. In a statement released this week, Rummler recounted that he feared bleeding to death while begging an agent for medical assistance. Los Angeles (USA).
