US Announces Prisoner Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine

White House envoy Steve Witkoff announced an agreement for a 314-prisoner swap between Moscow and Kiev as part of peace talks in Abu Dhabi, highlighting productive diplomatic efforts and hope for future progress.

The United States has announced an agreement on a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine. White House envoy Steve Witkoff, who is in Abu Dhabi for peace talks, announced that the two sides will exchange 314 prisoners. "While there is still significant work to be done, steps like this demonstrate that sustained diplomatic contacts are yielding tangible results and contribute to efforts to end the war in Ukraine," said Witkoff. He also noted that "the talks will continue" and "further progress" is expected in the coming weeks. Witkoff praised "the leadership" of Donald Trump for making the agreement possible and thanked the United Arab Emirates for hosting the second round of trilateral contacts between Russians, Ukrainians, and Americans. He described the peace talks that led to the agreement as "detailed and productive." This is the first prisoner exchange in five months between Moscow and Kiev, which follows numerous exchanges of both soldiers and civilians held captive after their direct contacts in Istanbul last year.
