Anderson Cooper Leaving CBS After Nearly 20 Years

New York, Feb 17 (EFE). - Renowned American journalist Anderson Cooper announced this Monday that he is leaving the '60 minutes' news program on CBS after nearly 20 years to dedicate more time to his two young children. 'Being a correspondent on '60 minutes' has been one of the highlights of my career. I was able to tell incredible stories and work with some of the best producers, editors, and camera crews in this business,' Cooper said in a media statement. 'For nearly 20 years, I was able to balance my work at CNN and CBS, but I have young children now and I want to spend as much time as I can with them, while they want to spend time with me,' he added. CBS, for its part, thanked Cooper for his work in a statement and left the door open for him to return to the program whenever he wants, noting that his investigations have had consequences and that he has interviewed many prominent figures. The journalist's departure comes amid reports of layoffs in the CBS news division, owned by Paramount Skydance, and which is part of the changes initiated by the new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, to emphasize video broadcasting to attract a larger audience. However, Cooper plans to remain at CNN, where he hosts his own program and is a key face of events such as the New Year's special, after renewing his contract in December 2025, the media report.
