Texas Early Voting Breaks Participation Record

Early voting in Texas primaries has broken historical records of participation. More than 2.5 million people in the state cast their ballots before Tuesday, according to data collected by The Houston Chronicle. Both Democrats and Republicans have increased their early voting, but the increase has been much more pronounced among Democrats, with a 119% jump compared to 2022. This contest has also become the most expensive primary in Texas history, with spending of about $125 million on ads. Republican Senator John Cornyn is seeking re-election for a fourth term, facing an aggressive campaign from ultra-conservative Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The Democratic race pits Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett against state legislator James Talarico, who is trying to attract more moderate voters.
