Trump Recognizes Venezuelan Government

Donald Trump has officially recognized the Venezuelan government led by interim President Delcy Rodriguez. He announced this in Miami during his 'Shield of the Americas' initiative, where he invited more than a dozen right-wing leaders from the region. The U.S. leader also referred to the agreement between Washington and Caracas to resume diplomatic relations, reached this week following a military operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and the subsequent appointment of Rodriguez as interim president. 'I am pleased to say that this week, we have formally recognized the Venezuelan government,' Trump stated. He noted that the United States is 'achieving a historic transformation in Venezuela,' a country with which it broke relations in 2019 during Trump's first term, when Washington recognized opposition leader and then head of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, as interim president. Delcy Rodriguez, in turn, thanked Donald Trump for the formal recognition of her government. She stated her readiness to build long-term relations based on mutual respect, equality, and international law. 'We reaffirm that diplomatic dialogue is the virtuous path to resolve divergences between Venezuela and the United States and to advance on points of agreement,' she wrote in her X account. Earlier, Trump said at a summit with conservative American presidents that this week he formally recognized the government of Delcy Rodriguez in Venezuela after resuming diplomatic relations.
