The Capitalist Attraction of the USA for Migrants

The USA, often criticized as imperialist, sees a high influx of migrants from Latin America seeking better economic opportunities. Many question why.

The Capitalist Attraction of the USA for Migrants

In the American continent, the United States is considered the most capitalist country. Despite being criticized by leftist rulers and intellectuals for being labeled as imperialist and exploitative, it is the desired destination for 90% of migrants coming from countries like Venezuela, Ecuador, Central America, Argentina, and Mexico, among other Latin American countries.

Some argue that factors such as climate, geographical location, natural resources, and race determine a country’s progress. However, history shows that the predominant economic system is the most important factor.

In Asia, for example, the contrast between China and Taiwan can be observed. In America, the case of migration from socialist Europe to capitalist Eastern Europe stands out.

The author of "Rich Governments, Poor People," available on Amazon, analyzes various economies and shows with figures how countries with similar characteristics but different economic systems, like China and Taiwan, experience different results. For instance, the Chinese who emigrated to Taiwan have a per capita GDP approximately 30 times greater than that of Mao Zedong's socialist China.

This migration phenomenon is a key indicator to determine where people live better, whether in capitalist or socialist countries, beyond ideologies. Korea, divided into socialist North and capitalist South, also shows migration from the former to the latter, debunking certain myths about it.
