The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico, will be the first World Cup held in three different countries and the first to feature 48 teams. The tournament will be played across 16 stadiums. Although three countries are participating, the distribution of venues will be uneven: the United States will provide 11 stadiums, Mexico three, and Canada only two. The tournament will also mark the return of the iconic Estadio Azteca to the world stage, where the Argentine national team became champions in 1986 under the leadership of Diego Maradona. The Estadio Azteca, with a capacity of 83,264 and located in Mexico City, was built for the 1970 World Cup and will be the largest venue for the upcoming tournament. It is where legendary figures like Maradona and Pelé lifted the World Cup. The stadium's football history began in 2010; prior to this, it was used exclusively for American football, serving as the home field for the New York Jets and the New York Giants.
