The prize money for next year's World Cup will be 50% higher than in the previous edition, after FIFA approved today a record financial contribution to the tournament of $727 million. The largest part of FIFA's financing package for the edition to be held in North America - $655 million - will be performance-based payments to the 48 participating teams, with the champion receiving $50 million and the runner-up $33 million. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement: "The 2026 World Cup will also be a pioneer in its financial contribution to the global football community." The 16 teams that fail to get past the group stage will receive $9 million each. In addition, each qualified team will be entitled to $1.5 million to cover preparation costs. FIFA's Council also confirmed that the FIFA Women's Club World Cup 2028 will take place from January 5 to 30.
