The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) plans to elevate the semi-automated offside technology to a new level. This will involve 3D body scanning of all 1,248 players participating in the 2026 World Cup to create a three-dimensional model similar to the one used in the 'Avatar' film series. Each of the 48 participating teams will have 26 players, meaning all players will be scanned. Ahead of the tournament, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, each player will enter the 3D scanning room once, a process that takes only one second.
