Bo Bichette Agrees to Contract with Mets

Two-time All-Star Bo Bichette has agreed to a three-year, $126 million contract with the New York Mets. He will play third base, complementing left-handed outfielder Juan Soto. Despite his lack of experience at the new position, the team's management is confident in the need to improve defense.

Bo Bichette Agrees to Contract with Mets

Bo Bichette and the New York Mets agreed on Friday to a three-year, $126 million contract, a person familiar with the negotiations confirmed. Bichette, a two-time All-Star shortstop with the Toronto Blue Jays, will play third base for the Mets, who have Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor at shortstop. This gives the Mets a dangerous right-handed batter to help complement left-handed outfielder Juan Soto. However, due to his inexperience at third base, Bichette becomes another question mark for New York, though Stearns has insisted the team must improve its defense and is determined to do so. Baseball president David Stearns also traded away two other cornerstones: outfielder Brandon Nimmo and versatile Jeff McNeil, both homegrown players. Bichette has never played a professional game at third base. He can opt out of the deal after the first or second season to become a free agent again.
