New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye missed practice due to an illness. Head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed that Maye was absent after he was not seen during the limited period at the start of practices open to the media. Both issues—the illness and a shoulder injury—kept him off the field on Friday.

Maye was at the team facility and was able to participate in team meetings. “This is the game you dream of playing, so I hope to go out and play in the Super Bowl,” Maye said.

“But we’ve been working on this here for the last six weeks,” Vrabel added.

Friday was the team’s final practice in Massachusetts before traveling to Santa Clara, California, for Super Bowl week. Maye said his focus was on being ready in time for the Super Bowl.

“I feel good and hope to be ready,” Maye said.

“We’ve had a lot of guys sick over the last month or six weeks,” Vrabel said. “And trying to take care of the guys and not spread things around.”

This came a day after Maye participated in a limited practice due to a shoulder injury. The coach said Maye responded “favorably” after Thursday’s practice in which he made some throws and would have practiced on Friday had he not been ill.

Vrabel reiterated that he is not concerned about Maye’s availability going forward.

“No. Drake Maye is dealing with an illness and did not practice on Friday, the latest setback in the New England Patriots quarterback’s preparations for the Super Bowl matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
