American sprinter Sha'Cari Richardson arrested for reckless driving

American sprinter Sha'Cari Richardson was arrested two days ago in Florida for reckless driving and speeding over 100 mph, according to reports. Richardson was charged with dangerous and excessive speeding after being stopped by Orange County Police and released on a $500 bond. Richardson, a former 100m world champion and 100m silver and 4x100m relay gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is no stranger to controversy; the 25-year-old sprinter was previously arrested in July at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for paying for her friend, sprinter Christian Coleman. Richardson later apologized to Coleman on social media, and no charges were filed against her. Additionally, Richardson was banned from competing at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021 after testing positive for a banned substance following her win at the U.S. trials, resulting in a one-month suspension. Florida's 'excessive speed' law took effect last July to reduce rising fatalities from dangerous road accidents. The law criminalizes driving 50 mph over the speed limit or over 100 mph. A first-time offender could face up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.
